SFEE believes that the sole effective and safe choice for the containment of health expenditure is the technological streamlining of the IT infrastructure of the health system.

Based on international experience, a system of this kind ensures monitoring and control of prescribing and diagnostic testing, which could lead to the containment of health care expenditure by up to 30%.

We consistently stress that pharmaceutical expenditure represents 1/5 of total healthcare expenditure and that the streamlining of the IT infrastructure is the only effective way to completely and definitely eliminate overspending across the whole range of health expenditure.

SFEE is always supportive of the technological streamlining of the IT infrastructure of the health system, which will lead to the control of “guided” demand and will put in order the economies and economics of the Social Insurance Funds. We believe that this is a prerequisite so that the Greek health system will be in the financial position in the future to safeguard direct access of the insured to the most developed medicines and treatments.

The technological streamlining and the thorough upgrade of the IT infrastructure will solve problems that have accumulated over decades, will contain the great loss of resources, and will contribute effectively to reducing administrative costs. The promotion of the system’s technological streamlining effectively serves the common interest of the citizens, the State, and the pharmaceutical industry by curtailing rising health care costs and ensuring the sustainability of the system and its ability to guarantee direct access to medicines. SFEE stands by the State so that its members, its expertise and experience on issues of the pharmaceutical market’s operation, as well as on issues of technological streamlining and IT infrastructure may be used toward the expeditious promotion of change in the Greek system.
