SFEE–MoH meeting on Pharmaceutical Policy

SFEE–MoH meeting on Pharmaceutical Policy

The BoD of SFEE presented yesterday to the leadership of the Ministry of Health the study carried out in cooperation with Deloitte on the subject “A Roadmap for Greece’s Pharmaceutical Policy”. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Health, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, the Secretary General for Fiscal Policy of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, the President of the Negotiation Committee, and the Advisor to the Minister of Health. During the meeting, differing approaches were noted regarding SFEE’s positions on public funding of pharmaceutical expenditure and the volume of prescriptions, compared to other European countries. It was agreed that these issues will be analysed and further clarified in the immediate period ahead, within the framework of a constructive and institutional dialogue.

SFEE highlighted the delay in the implementation of the measures that had been announced by the Ministry of Health within 2024, as well as the need for a gradual and sustainable increase in public funding in the pharmaceutical sector. Another point that requires attention from the political leadership is the significant increase in IFET sales, which are approaching €380 million in 2025. It was also noted that expenditure on uninsured citizens amounted to €329 million in 2023, €348 million in 2024, and is expected to remain at similar levels in 2025, despite the significant reduction in unemployment in recent years, while the results of the AMKA verification process are still pending.

Finally, SFEE reiterated its long-standing concern about the risk of limited patient access to new innovative and existing therapies, unless the funding framework is progressively stabilised and the necessary reforms are implemented in a rational manner. SFEE remains at the disposal of the State for ongoing, evidence-based dialogue, with patients and innovation at the core, and we remain optimistic that common ground can be found between the State and the pharmaceutical industry.
