EOF’s decision to revoke the export ban on a significant number of medicines

Halandri, 29th January 2024.- SFEE announcement regarding EOF’s decision to revoke the decision to ban exports of a large number of medicines, SfEE states the following:
• We monitor market developments and are in continuous and stable contact with the respective services of the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Organizations regarding any issues that may arise.
• Priority should be given to the smooth supply of the market to unique – critical medicines for which there are no alternatives.
• We point out once again that the particularly low prices of many medicines, combined with the high returns in Greece, are the main cause of shortages due to parallel exports or withdrawals. This distortion should be corrected gradually, giving priority to unique-critical medicines.
• SfEE and its member companies are making efforts and inform the authorities when necessary to ensure that Greek patients have access to the necessary treatments, as safeguarding public health is a top priority.
• The Electronic Drug Trafficking Monitoring System has started its operation and we hope that it will contribute decisively to the effective supervision of the market. It remains to be seen in the near future whether the recent lifting of the export ban decided on many medicines was a move in the right direction or whether we will return to a further intensification of shortages, which, if it happens, will confirm the inability of the competent bodies to supervise the market.
